Major Projects in BC Are Using the Community Benefits Agreement

It’s great to see that building major infrastructure projects in a responsible way is taking hold in British Columbia, with several recent Government projects all planned to be delivered under the new Community Benefits Agreement (CBA). These include:

  • Pattullo Bridge replacement
  • Trans-Canada Highway 1 upgrades between Kamloops and Alberta
  • Broadway Skytrain extension project in Vancouver

Under the CBA framework, these projects will bring vital job and training opportunities for local workers, including groups traditionally underrepresented in the construction sector like women and Indigenous communities. Valuable apprenticeship and skills training opportunities will also help address our current skilled labour shortage by training up the next generation of trades workers in B.C.

The Community Building Standard applauds these positive steps by the B.C. Government.
